Job Description

As a Principal Electrical Engineer at AMF MEP, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all electrical engineering activities within our projects. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking to ensure the successful delivery of complex and innovative engineering solutions. You will be responsible for driving technical excellence, fostering a collaborative environment, and ensuring our projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead the electrical engineering design and development of projects from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems and other building services.
  • Oversee and review detailed electrical design drawings, specifications, and calculations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure the highest standards of electrical engineering are achieved.
  • Mentor and manage a team of electrical engineers and designers, providing support, training, and development opportunities.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical and public health engineers, architects and contractors, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients on electrical engineering matters, providing technical advice and addressing any concerns or queries.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in electrical engineering technologies and best practices, driving continuous improvement and innovation within the organisation.
  • Ensure all electrical engineering activities comply with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of project budgets, ensuring cost-effective and efficient engineering solutions.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering (within the UK Market), with at least 5 years in a senior or principal role within the MEP industry.

  • Proficient in electrical engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP and other relevant tools.

  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, industry standards and best practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor team members.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent professional certification is preferred but not essential.

 

Requirements 

  • A high level of proficiency in English is essential for this role, as clear and effective communication is key to our collaborative work environment and our commitment to delivering outstanding results for our clients.
